CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team held off Oglethorpe University 69-73 Sunday afternoon at Grove Gymnasium in Southern Athletic Association action.
With the win, the Warriors remain in a tie for first place in the SAA at 5-1 with Birmingham-Southern College. Hendrix improves to 14-3 overall. The visiting Stormy Petrels fall to 7-9 and 2-4 in league play.
Hendrix led 32-27 at halftime and 49-41 headed into the final quarter. OU outscored the Orange & Black 28-24 in the fourth quarter and would cut their deficit to 68-65 with 49 seconds remaining. A basket by
Sara Dyslin nine seconds later pushed the Warriors' lead back to five points. Lauren Ransom hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to make the game 71-67, but Hendrix senior point guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler iced the game with a pair of free throws a second later. Ransom hit a lay-up at the buzzer for the Petrels, making the final score 73-69 in the Warriors' favor.
For the game, Hendrix shot 39 percent (23-of-59) from the floor, 5-of-21 from outside and 22-of-34 at the free throw line. OU shot 40 percent (24-of-60) overall, 7-of-22 from outside and 14-of-26 at the line. The Stormy Petrels had a 45-40 rebound advantage.
Hendrix Notes- Kriesel-Bigler led all scorers with 20 points and four assists. She went 9-of-10 at the free throw line.
- Dyslin scored 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go with six rebounds and a season-high five blocked shots.
- Sophomore forward
Heather Prowse had 13 points, eight boards, three assists and a trio of steals. It was the sixth time this season she scored in double-digits.
- Senior forward
Katy Gallien added a season-high 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
- In her first start of the season, junior guard
Hailey Bode scored six points, tied her career-high with four rebounds, recorded three assists and posted a pair of steals.
Oglethorpe Notes- Ransom led the Petrels with 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
- Emily Buck scored 15 points and had two blocks and two steals.
- Bailey Charles scored 12 points with six rebounds.
Up NextHendrix will remain at home for a SAA contest against third-place Millsaps College on Friday.
