CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team sit atop the Southern Athletic Association standings after a 66-63 overtime win over Millsaps College Friday night at Grove Gymnasium.
The Warriors are now 15-3 overall and 6-1 in league play. They entered Friday in a tie for first with Birmingham-Southern, the Panthers lost at Rhodes College, giving Hendrix sole possession of first place.
The Warriors started out with a 13-0 lead over the first four minutes of play and led 20-9 at the end of the opening quarter. The Majors (10-8, 4-3) outscored the Orange & Black 17-7 in the second quarter, cutting the home team's lead to 27-26 at the break.
With Hendrix up by one early in the third, Millsaps went on a 10-0 run to take a 38-29 lead with 5:11 to play in the period. The Warriors managed to make the game 44-42 to start the fourth quarter.
The Majors led or tied the whole fourth quarter, but never tallied more than a four-point advantage. Down 55-52, Hendrix senior point guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler buried a three-pointer with 27 seconds left in regulation to tie it up. Millsaps' held on to the ball for the final shot, but good Hendrix defense forced a difficult three-point attempt as time expired, sending the game to overtime.
The visiting team took a 61-59 lead with 2:13 on the clock in the extra period. Back-to-back three-pointers from junior forward
Anna King and Kriesel-Bigler put the Warriors in control at 65-61 with 1:02 left. A pair of Miah Brooks free throws with four seconds left made the game 65-63. Sophomore center
Madison Martin hit a free throw for the Warriors with two ticks left to secure the 66-63 victory.
For the game, Hendrix shot 42 percent (21-of-50) from the field, 9-of-20 from beyond the arc and 15-of-20 at the free throw line. Millsaps shot 39.3 percent (24-of-61) overall, 1-of-11 from outside and 14-of-19 at the line. The Warriors had a 37-30 rebound advantage.
Hendrix Notes.- Kriesel-Bigler, the SAA's leading scorer, scored 18 points and dished out four assists. She went 7-for-7 at the charity stripe.
- Sophomore center Sara Dylsin recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 boards to go with three blocked shots.
- King finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

Millsaps Notes- Brooks led the Majors with 24 points and nine rebounds.
- Kala-Jewell Freeman came off the bench for 11 points and six boards.
- Keyerra Jordan also scored 10 points with four assists off the bench.
