CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team opened the 2016-17 campaign with a 64-48 victory over the University of Dallas at Grove Gymnasium Tuesday evening.
The Warriors trailed midway through the first quarter 12-6, but ended the period on a 15-0 run to take control of the game. They pushed ahead of the Crusaders 34-21 at halftime. The Orange & Black maintained at least a nine-point lead in the third quarter and lead by as many at 21 in the fourth.
For the game, the Warriors shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the field, 9-of-31 from three-point range and 9-of-14 from the free throw line. They also had 41 rebounds, 17 assists, four blocks and four steals. The Crusaders shot 24.2 percent (15-of-62) overall, 3-of-22 from outside and 15-of-19 from the stripe with 47 rebounds, eight assists, seven blocks and four steals.
Hendrix Notes
- Sophomore center
Leigh James led Hendrix with a career-high 18 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocks. She went 4-for-5 from three-point territory.
- Senior guard
Hailey Bode also hit four trifectas for 12 points to go with five boards.
- Junior center
Madison Martin tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
- Freshman
Amber Turner chipped in six points with eight assists and a pair of steals.
- Sophomore
Maddie Anderson added six points and five boards.
- Junior forward
Heather Prowse scored five points with eight rebounds and three assists.
- The Warriors' 31 three-point attempts were tied for the second most in school history.
Dallas Notes
- Michelle DeCoud paced the Crusaders with 16 points, 19 rebounds and six blocks.
- Celsi Caraway added 15 points, five boards and three assists.
- Seana Stoia came up with nine points and five rebounds.
