JACKSON, Miss. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team opened the SCAC-SAA Challenge in Jackson, Miss. with a 67-65 loss to Centenary College of Louisiana Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (1-1) shot 43.5 percent (10-of-23) in the first half and built a 29-24 lead at the break. The Ladies (2-0) came back in the second half and led 57-50 with 6:30 left in the game. Hendrix went on a 11-4 run to take a 61-59 lead at the 3:35 mark. Jasmine Morris tied it up for Centenary 24 seconds later.
The Orange & Black made 4-of-6 free throws over the next two minutes to take a 65-61 lead. Back-to-back baskets from the Ladies tied it back up with 3.3 seconds left. Hendrix turned the ball over and Morris scored the final basket with 0.7 seconds left to secure the win.
The Warriors shot 40 percent (22-of-55) from the field and went 6-of-13 from three-point range and 15-of-28 at the line. They also recorded 44 rebounds, 13 assists, 22 turnovers and five steals. The Ladies shot 38.4 percent (27-of-73), were 5-of-18 from outside and 6-of-12 from the free throw line. They also had 38 rebounds, nine assists, 13 turnovers and 10 steals.
Hendrix Notes
- Junior center
Madison Martin led the Warriors with a career-high 22 points and 20 rebounds. She became the third player in Hendrix history, along with Christina Byler and Jamie Tate, to record 20 points and rebounds in the same contest.
- Senior guard
Hailey Bode scored 14 points with a a pair of assists.
- Freshman guard
Amber Turner netted 13 points with five boards, two assists and two steals.
- Junior forward
Heather Prowse added 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Centenary Notes
- Morris finish with 24 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- DeiAnna Hall scored 14 points.
- Linda Gomez Gil added 11 points and seven boards off the bench.
- Erin Temple scored 10.
