JACKSON, Miss. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team lost 79-76 on a three-pointer at the buzzer to Centenary College of Louisiana in the SCAC-SAA Challenge Saturday night.
The Warriors (0-2) shot 50 percent (25-of-54) in the first half and led by as many as 14 before taking a 40-28 advantage into halftime.
The Gents (1-1) turned things around in the second half by shooting 60 percent (18-of-30). They started the second period on a 19-5 run to take a 47-45 lead with 15 minutes left. Hendrix led 69-67 with 2:46 left, but Centenary scored six straight points to take a 74-70 lead at the 1:03 mark.
A three-pointer by Warrior senior guard
Travis Garrett cut the deficit to just one point. The Gents turned the ball over, and the Orange & Black was fouled, but they missed both free throws with 22 seconds left. Centenary's Treylan Matthews hit a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left to go back up by three. Sophomore point guard
Preston Smith buried a three-pointer with three seconds left to tie it back up. Centenary's Travion Kirkendoll hit a three-pointer from 25 feet out at the buzzer to give the Gents the win.
For the win, Hendrix shot 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the field, 10-of-23 from three-point range and 16-of-24 from the free throw line. They also had 27 rebounds, 14 assists, 21 turnovers and six steals. Centenary shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58), 10-of-25 from outside and 15-of-21 from the line with 38 rebounds, 17 assists, 24 turnovers and six steals.

Jacob Link came off the bench for 20 points, four rebounds and two steals.
