CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team downed Austin College 79-73 at Grove Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (1-3) started the game off strong, shooting 43.3 percent (13-of-30) in the first half to take a 34-30 lead into halftime. They pushed their lead to as many as 14 points with 4:49 left in the game. The Kangaroos (2-3) closed the game to within seven points with 46 seconds left, but the game was never in doubt.
Hendrix avenged the loss suffered to Austin in Jackson, Miss. last Sunday.
For the game, the Warriors shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the field, 8-of-18 from three-point range and 23-of-38 at the line. They also had 43 rebounds, 17 assists, 14 turnovers, five blocks and four steals. The 'Roos shot 38.4 percent (28-of-73), 3-of-15 from outside, 14-of-22 at the stripe with 47 rebounds, 13 assists, nine turnovers, three blocks and four steals.

- Sophomore guard
Preston Smith led the Warriors with 22 points, five assists and two blocks. He went 11-of-13 at the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds.
- Senior guard
Aaron Steele scored 15 points off the bench and had four boards, one assist, one block and a steal.

Hank Aldous came up with 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Gearen Littlefield scored 13 points and grabbed eight balls off the glass.

Travis Garrett added nine points and five rebounds.

- Brian Baehl led the 'Roos with 25 points to go with six rebounds and three assists.
- Austin Wells scored 18 points.
