GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Hendrix College baseball team opened the 2016 season with a 7-0 loss to #22 California Lutheran University Friday night at the Rusty Greer Collegiate Classic.
Warrior junior starter
Harley Faye limited the Kingsmen to six hits and one run over the first six innings. Cal Lu broke through with a pair of runs on three hits in the seventh.
They added more runs in both the eighth and ninth innings for the final 7-0 score.
CLU outhit Hendrix 16-4 on the night. The Warriors struck out 11 times against the Kingsmen pitchers.
Hendrix Notes- Faye, making his first career start, went seven innings and allowed 10 hits and three runs while fanning four batters.
- Sophomore right fielder
JR McAuley hit a double for the Warriors' only extra-base hit.
- Sophomore designated hitter
Jake Wiegand reached base twice on a base hit and a walk.
- Freshman shortstop
Tanner Cooper and sophomore
Matthew Lillard also had singles.
- Sophomore catcher
Justin Robison threw out the only runner that tried to steal.
Cal Lutheran Notes- Starter Trey Saito (1-1) struck out three, walked one and allowed three hits over seven innings to get the win.
- Evan Peterson fanned five and allowed one hit in the final two innings.
- Right fielder Ramsey Abushala recorded two doubles, two walks and scored three times.
- Center fielder Justin Cana had a triple and a base hit, going 2-for-5.
Up NextHendrix will continue the Rusty Greer Classic against Hardin-Simmons University at 6 p.m. Saturday.
