CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team cruised to a 71-47 victory over Sewanee - The University of the South at Grove Gymnasium Friday night.
With the win, the Warriors improve to 17-5 overall and 8-3 in Southern Athletic Association play. They are tied for second place with Millsaps and trail Birmingham-Southern, who is 9-2, with three games left.
The Tigers fall to 11-11 overall and 3-8 in league play.
Before the match, Hendrix honored their three seniors -
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler,
Katy Gallien and
Estrella Flores.
The Warriors shot just 29 percent (7-of-24) in the first half and only led 21-19 at the break. The Orange & Black turned on the jets in the second half, shooting 55.2 percent (16-of-29), outscoring Sewanee 50-28.
For the game, Hendrix shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field, 5-of-19 from three-point range and 20-of-29 at the line. Sewanee shot 29.8 percent (14-of-47) overall, 6-of-24 from outside and 13-of-24 at the free throw line. The Warriors dominated the boards 48-25.
Hendrix Notes- Sophomore center
Sara Dyslin broke the school record for field goal percentage in a game by shooting a perfect 9-for-9. She finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
- Kriesel-Bigler netted 10 points, as did Flores.
- Sophomore forward
Heather Prowse also had 10 points with two assists and two steals.
- Gallien and Flores both dished out three assists.
Sewanee Notes- Bella Taylor led the Tigers with 13 points, two assists and three steals.
- Jamie Chauvin had 11 points.
- Haley McDonough led Sewanee with five reobounds.
Up NextHendrix hosts Centre College in their final home game of the year on Sunday at noon.
