Warriors' Rally Halted by Eagles

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost to the University of the Ozarks 9-8 at Lonnie Qualls Field Tuesday afternoon.

The host Eagles (2-2) scored five in the first and three in the third to take an early 8-0 lead. With two outs in the top of the fourth, Warrior (0-4) freshman shortstop Tanner Cooper was hit by a pitch and scored on a base hit by sophomore catcher Justin Robison. Ozarks added another run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 9-1.

Hendrix scored three runs in the top of the fifth on a hit, a pair of walks and two hit batters. Junior designated hitter Harley Faye knocked in Drew Judson and Wyatt Hogan with a single up the middle and JR McAuley scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 9-4.

The Warriors' big inning came in the sixth when they plated four runs. Junior third baseman Spencer Summers led off by being hit, then stole second. Summers moved to a third on a ground out then Judson was hit. Summers scored on a Hogan double to right center. McAuley followed with a double of his own, allowing Judson to score. Faye drew a walk to load the bases, then Cooper was walked, plating Hogan. After a strikeout for the second out, Robison also walked, making the game 9-8 after McAuley crossed the plate. Reliever Luke Dyer induced a Summers fly out to end the inning.

Dyer handcuffed Hendrix the rest of the game, allowing just two hits and striking out three over the final three innings to earn the save.
