Warriors Take Two from Bears

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team picked up their first wins of the season with a double-header sweep of Washington University at Warrior Field Saturday.

The Warriors (2-4) took the first game 2-1, then topped the Bears (0-2) 6-4.

In the opener, senior Daniel Imbro (1-1) struck out 10 and allowed three hits, one run and two walks in nine-inning, complete game effort.

Wash. U. scored in the top of the first when shortstop Austin Darmawan led the game off by being hit, stole second and scored on a ground ball by Ben Browdy.

The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, junior Wyatt Hogan drew a walk and sophomore Drew Judson singled. Freshman shortstop Tanner Cooper followed with a base hit to left, allowing Hogan to score. Sophomore first baseman Matthew Lillard knocked in Judson, which proved to be the game-winning run, with a single up the middle.

Scott Nelson (0-1) took the loss for the Bears. He allowed five hits, two runs, two walks and struck out three in six frames.

In game two, Wash. U. once again scored in the top of the first, but Hendrix answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame. Lillard came up with a two-run triple in the inning.

The Bears added another run in the third and two more in the fourth to make it 5-4. The Warriors added an insurance fun in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore Jake Wiegand led off with a walk and later scored on a base hit from Lillard.

Junior Harley Faye (1-1) earned the win in game two. He had a strike out and allowed eight hits, four earned runs and two walks over seven innings. Senior Kyle Teachout fanned one in a scoreless eighth inning and freshman Taylor Barker earned his first career save with a scoreless ninth.

Brad Margolin (0-1) allowed nine hits, five runs, a walk and struck out two in three innings in the loss.
