CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 defeat to Rhodes College in the first Southern Athletic Association match of the season Saturday.

The Lynx (2-0, 1-0) won all three doubles matches, but the Warriors (5-2, 0-1) made it close. Hendrix' top team of juniors Julia Lefler and Lauren Mahaney were defeated 8-4 by Caroline Doherty and Anna Volkov. In number two doubles, junior Pratheepa Ravikumar and sophomore Laela Zaidi fell to Morgan Wilkins and Sara Lynn Abbott 8-3. Senior Any Jivan and sophomore Sarah Nieman lost to Annie Thomas and Jassie Amaro 8-3 in the final spot.

Lefler pushed Doherty in number one singles, but fell 6-3, 6-4. Volkov defeated Ravikumar 6-4, 6-2 in the second flight and Abbott topped Zaidi 61, 6-4 in the fourth spot.

Hendrix will take on non-conference foe Austin College at home next Saturday.
