MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team held off Berry College 55-54 in Southern Athletic Association action at the Cage Center Friday night.
The Warriors (16-4, 7-2) led 28-23 at halftime and were up 40-33 on the Vikings (8-12, 2-7) headed into the final period. Hendrix led 50-40 with 4:42 left in the game, but Berry answered with a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to 52-50 at the 2:08 mark.
A three-pointer with 1:45 left by Warrior guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler gave the Orange & Black a cushion down the stretch. A bucket by Viking forward Emma Cook followed by a pair of free throws by Imani Smith cut the Warrior led to just one point with 51 seconds left. Hendrix managed to hold on to the ball for the rest of the game, grabbing a pair of offensive boards on their missed shots, and escaped with the one-point victory.
For the game, Hendrix shot 33.9 percent (21-of-62) from the field, 4-of-20 from three-point range and 9-of-11 at the free throw line. Berry shot 33.3 percent (22-of-66) overall, 2-of-17 from outside and 8-of-16 at the stripe. The Warriors held a 48-42 rebound advantage.
With the win, Hendrix remains in a first place tie with Birmingham-Southern atop the SAA standings with five games left to play.
Hendrix Notes- Sophomore center Sara Dylsin recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 boards to go with two assists and two blocks.
- Senior guard
Estrella Flores came off the bench for 10, knocking down a pair of threes in the process. It was her second double-digit scoring performance of the year.
- Sophomore forward
Heather Prowse had 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.
- Junior forward
Anna King had six points and seven boards.
- Kriesel-Bigler finished with five points and four assists.
Berry Notes- Imani Smith led the Vikings with 11 points and two steals.
- Center Megan Casey had nine points, eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
- Cook finished with eight points and five boards.
- Zarriah Pierce came off the bench to record nine points and five rebounds.
Up NextHendrix will take on Oglethorpe University in Atlanta Sunday.
