Hendrix Falls to CBC In Crosstown Battle

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost to crosstown rival Central Baptist College 6-1 Tuesday night at Warrior Field.

The Mustangs (18-1) outhit the Warriors (12-5).

CBC put up three runs in the third on two hits, an error and a pair of walks. Second baseman Jalin Lawson and first baseman Santez Richardson had RBI singles in the fourth to make the game 5-0. The Mustangs added another run in the sixth on a Seth McLemore base hit.

Hendrix scored in the eighth when freshman shortstop Tanner Cooper reached on a base hit. Junior catcher James Martin and freshman Jorge Leon drew walks to load up the bases. Freshman center fielder Marshall Nichol followed with base on balls, allowing Cooper to score.

Hendrix Notes
- Cooper's hit in the eighth extended his hitting streak to eight games. He also drew a pair of walks.
- Junior left fielder Wyatt Hogan went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
- Leon and sophomore first baseman Jake Wiegand each had a base hit.
- Freshman starter Josh Slezak (0-2) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in 2.1 innings.
- Left-handed reliever Cannon Schrank tied his career-high with four strikeouts and only allowed a hit in two scoreless innings.

Central Baptist Notes
- Dillon Cates (3-0) earned the win, going six scoreless innings and allowing three hits, two walks and strikeout.
- Richardson went 3-for-4 with two runs, a double and a RBI.
- Lawson had two hits, including a double, with two runs scored and a RBI.
- McLemore drove in two runs.
- Center fielder Deonta Howard hit a triple.

Up Next
Hendrix will host North Park University in a weekend series beginning with Saturday's double-header at 1:30 p.m.
