Hendrix Splits With #22 Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College baseball team split with #22 Berry College in Southern Athletic Association action at William R. Bowdoin Field Friday afternoon.

The host Vikings (15-5, 3-2) took the opener 12-0, but the Warriors (8-9, 3-2) rebounded to win the nightcap 6-2.

In game one, Berry outhit Hendrix 14-2 and took advantage of five errors. TJ Montgomery (4-1) earned the win with six strikeouts and allowing two hits and a walk over seven innings. Senior Daniel Imbro (2-3) took the loss for the Orange & Black.

The Warriors opened game two with three runs in the top of the first. Freshman third baseman Jorge Leon led off with a base hit, followed by a Drew Judson bunt single and another hit by Wyatt Hogan to load the bases. After an out, sophomore first baseman Matthew Lillard drove in Leon with a single to left field, which was mishandled and allowed Judson and Hogan to cross the plate as well.

The Vikings scored a run in the bottom of the first. Hendrix tacked on three more runs in the fifth. Leon once again got things started with a walk and Judson singled. Hogan doubled in Leon and freshman shortstop Tanner Cooper singled in Judson with hit to right field. A ground ball by Lillard had Hogan thrown out at the plate, but Cooper scored on a throwing error on his steal of third base. Berry scored the final run on a Casey Whitaker sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Senior Will Nichol (2-1) allowed four hits, two runs, a walk and struck out four in the win. Trey Rampy (3-2) took the loss for the Vikings.
