CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team defeated the University of the Ozarks 11-3 at Warrior Field Wednesday night.
The Warriors (10-9) outhit the Eagles (7-8) 14-8 in the game.
Hendrix opened the scoring with two runs in the second. Sophomore catcher
Justin Robison doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman right fielder
Marshall Nichol. Sophomore center fielder
JR McAuley reached on a fielder's choice in the inning and sophomore first baseman
Jake Wiegand drew a walk. Ozarks attempted to pickoff Wiegand at first and McAuley scored on a delayed steal.
Wyatt Hogan and
Tanner Cooper led off the third with back-to-back infield singles.
Matthew Lillard followed with a double down the right field line, plating Hogan. Cooper scored on a sacrifice fly off of Robison's bat.
Hendrix' big inning came in the fifth when they scored five runs off four hits and three walks. Lillard, Robison and Nichol each had RBI singles in the frame and freshman third baseman
Jorge Leon hit a two-run base hit.
The Eagles' first run came in the seventh when third baseman Justin Crider drew a walk, stole second and scored on a base hit by left fielder Zach Walker. The Warriors scored again in the bottom of the seventh when McAuley led off with a double and was knocked in by
Harley Faye.
Ozarks made the game 10-3 with a pair of runs on four hits in the eighth. Hendrix added a final run in the bottom of the eight when McAuley drew a bases loaded walk, allowing Cooper to score.
Left-handed starter
Cannon Schrank (2-0) earned the win by allowing a hit and a walk with a strikeout over four scoreless innings. Junior lefty
Colten Poellinger struck out three over two scoreless innings. McAuley struck out a batter and allowed a walk in the ninth.
Jorden Allred (1-1) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up five hits, four runs and three walks over 2.1 innings.
Hendrix Notes- Lillard went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
- Robison was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a pair of RBI, a double and a sac fly.
- Cooper went 2-for-4 with three runs scored to extend his hitting streak to 15 games.
- McAuley scored twice and had a double, a RBI and a steal.
- Nichol drove in a pair of runs, as did Leon.
- Hogan scored twice.
Ozarks Notes- Walker went 2-for-3 for the Eagles.
- Crider scored a run, drew a walk and stole a base.
Up NextHendrix will return to conference play with a home double-header against Oglethorpe Saturday.
