CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team split a Southern Athletic Association double-header with Oglethorpe University at Warrior Field on Saturday.
The host Warriors (11-10, 5-3) won the first game 8-2, with the Stormy Petrels (11-9, 3-5) taking the nightcap 4-2.
The first game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Hendrix put up six runs on two hits, four walks and two hit batters. All six runs came on a walk or hit batter with the bases loaded.
The Warriors went up 8-0 in the sixth when sophomore second baseman
Drew Judson was plunked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Freshman shortstop
Tanner Cooper knocked Judson in with a single. Sophomore
Matthew Lillard followed with a double down the right field line, plating Cooper.
Oglethorpe got on the board with a run in the eighth when second baseman Keith Dearden walked with the bases loaded. In the ninth, Petrel left fielder Jarvis Miller tripled and scored on a ground out by Spencer Transue for the final run of the game.
Warrior starter
Daniel Imbro (3-3) earned the win with seven strikeouts, two walks and five hits over seven scoreless innings. Matt Davis (3-2) took the loss for the Stormy Petrels.
In game two, Oglethorpe took advantage of five Warrior errors, and all four runs were unearned.
After an error in the top of the first, Austin Ferlita walked with the bases loaded to score the first run of the game. Hendrix tied the game in the third when sophomore
JR McAuley was hit by a pitch and later stole home.
OU regained the lead in the fourth on a RBI-single from Miller. The Warriors answered again in the bottom of the frame when freshman third baseman
Jorge Leon led off with a walk and later scored on a Cooper sacrifice fly.
The Stormy Petrels took the lead for good in the sixth with a two-run single from center fielder Britton Araujo.
OU starter Kyle Mitchell (3-0) walked six and allowed four runs and an earned run over five innings to get the win. Justin Thigpen struck out two in two innings for his second save of the year. Senior
Will Nichol (2-2) struck out six batters, but allowed five walks, six hits and four unearned runs in the loss. Left-handed reliever
Cannon Schrank fanned two and allowed two hits in a scoreless inning of work.
Hendrix Notes- Leon recorded two hits in the first game. He had a single in game two.
- Cooper's 16-game hitting streak ended in game two. The streak was tied for the sixth-longest in program history.
- Judson and Cooper each scored twice in the opener.

Marshall Nichol went 2-for-3 in the second game.

Jake Wiegand drew three walks and had an RBI in game one.
Oglethorpe Notes- Miller had two hits with the triple in game one. Transue also had two hits in the opener.
- First baseman Adrian Celata recorded a double and a single in game one.
- Araujo had two hits, two RBI and stole a base in game two.
- Brandon Fish also came up with a pair of hits in the nightcap.
