CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team overcame a 9-6 deficit in the bottom of the eighth to win 10-9 over Oglethorpe University at Warrior Field Sunday.
With the win, the Warriors take their fifth consecutive series, including three in the Southern Athletic Association, and move their record to 12-10 overall and 6-3 in conference.
The Stormy Petrels (11-10, 3-6) opened the scoring in the fourth with a pair of runs. They went up 4-0 in the top of the fifth on a two-run double by Brandon Fish.
Hendrix answered with a six-spot in the bottom of the frame. Junior left fielder
Wyatt Hogan drew a bases loaded walk and freshman shortstop
Tanner Cooper knocked in two on a single through the left side of the infield.
Matthew Lillard recorded a sacrifice fly and catcher
Justin Robison singled a run with base hit down the left field line.
OU regained a 7-6 advantage with three runs on four hits, two walks and an error in the sixth. They went up 9-6 on a RBI triple from Jarvis Miller and a hit Spencer Transue.
In the bottom of the eighth, sophomore center fielder
JR McAuley led off with a walk, followed by a single from
Marshall Nichol and an infield single by
Jorge Leon to load the bases. After a ground ball off the bat of
Drew Judson forced McAuley out at home, Hogan drew another bases loaded walk to make the game 9-7. Cooper followed with another walk, scoring Leon. After a pitching change, Lillard hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Judson to score the tying run. Robison singled up the middle to knock in Hogan as the game-winning run.
With one out, and runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, senior reliever
Kyle Teachout induced a double play ball to end the game and earn the win.
Hendrix Notes- Teachout (1-0) won the seventh game of his career by allowing a walk and three hits over three scoreless innings.
- Cooper went 3-for-3 with three RBI, two walks and a run scored.
- Leon recorded a pair of hits, two runs and a RBI.
- Robison finished with two hits and two knocked in.
- McAuley also had two hits, scored and stole base.
- Hogan recorded two RBI walks and scored twice.
- Lillard drove in two with a pair of sacrifice flies.

Oglethorpe Notes- Justin Thigpen (2-1) took the loss by allowing three walks, two hits and four walks in the eighth.
- Center fielder Britton Araujo went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and a RBI.
- Fish had two RBI and a double.
- Right fielder Scott Witt was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
- Miller finished 3-for-4 with a triple, a RBI and two runs.
