Hendrix Rallies to Defeat Oglethorpe 10-9

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team overcame a 9-6 deficit in the bottom of the eighth to win 10-9 over Oglethorpe University at Warrior Field Sunday.

With the win, the Warriors take their fifth consecutive series, including three in the Southern Athletic Association, and move their record to 12-10 overall and 6-3 in conference.

The Stormy Petrels (11-10, 3-6) opened the scoring in the fourth with a pair of runs. They went up 4-0 in the top of the fifth on a two-run double by Brandon Fish.

Hendrix answered with a six-spot in the bottom of the frame. Junior left fielder Wyatt Hogan drew a bases loaded walk and freshman shortstop Tanner Cooper knocked in two on a single through the left side of the infield. Matthew Lillard recorded a sacrifice fly and catcher Justin Robison singled a run with base hit down the left field line.

OU regained a 7-6 advantage with three runs on four hits, two walks and an error in the sixth. They went up 9-6 on a RBI triple from Jarvis Miller and a hit Spencer Transue.

In the bottom of the eighth, sophomore center fielder JR McAuley led off with a walk, followed by a single from Marshall Nichol and an infield single by Jorge Leon to load the bases. After a ground ball off the bat of Drew Judson forced McAuley out at home, Hogan drew another bases loaded walk to make the game 9-7. Cooper followed with another walk, scoring Leon. After a pitching change, Lillard hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Judson to score the tying run. Robison singled up the middle to knock in Hogan as the game-winning run.

With one out, and runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, senior reliever Kyle Teachout induced a double play ball to end the game and earn the win.
