Reddies Hold Off Warriors 5-3

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost to NCAA Division II in-state foe Henderson State University 5-3 at Clyde Berry Field Tuesday night.

The Reddies (12-16) scored three times in the third on a two-run triple from second baseman AJ Kruzel and a RBI-single from center fielder Tadarious Hawkins.

They tacked on two more after a hit, an error, a walk and a wild pitch in the fourth to go up 5-0.

Reddie starter Kris Priddy (1-0) held the Warriors (12-11) hitless while only allowing three walks and striking out three through seven innings. Dylan McCain came in the game for HSU in the top of the eighth and Hendrix took advantage.

Freshman left fielder Marshall Nichol led off with a single, followed by a walk issued to freshman Jorge Leon and a base hit for sophomore Drew Judson to load the bases. Freshman Josh Slezak followed with a pinch hit walk, scoring Nichol. Freshman shortstop Tanner Cooper followed with a single to center field, plating Leon. Freshman Josh Walker drove in Judson with a pinch hit sacrifice fly.

The Warriors loaded the bases in the top of the ninth against closer Nick Vanthillo, but he was able to induce a double play and get a ground out for his fourth save of the year.

Priddy earned the win for the Reddies, while junior left-hander Colten Poellinger took the loss for the Warriors. Junior Connor Nelson struck out a career-high four batters in 3.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Warriors.
