CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost 3-1 to NCAA Division II in-state foe Ouachita Baptist University at Warrior Field Tuesday night.
The visiting Tigers (8-21) used 10 different pitchers to limi the Warriors (15-12) to seven hits. OBU picked up 12 hits against four Hendrix hurlers.
The Tigers scored the first run of the game in the second when catcher Austin White singled and later scored from second on a single to right from left fielder Drew Feuerbacher. Right fielder Victor Draijer hit a solo home run that bounced off the top of the left field fence in the top of the third to make the game 2-0.
The Warriors scored in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore second baseman
Drew Judson started off with a single and moved to second on a
Wyatt Hogan base hit. After a sacrifice bunt from freshman shortstop
Tanner Cooper, sophomore designated hitter
Matthew Lillard hit a pop up into shallow center field that was caught by the Tiger second baseman, allowing Judson to cross the plate.
OBU picked up the final run on Feuerbacher's solo home run to left that led off the seventh.
Zach Gloff (1-0) earned the win by striking out a batter in a perfect first inning. Bo Sutton earned the final out of the game to get the save. Left-handed starter
Cannon Schrank (2-1) gave up seven hits, two runs, a walk and struck out four in the losing effort.
Hendrix Notes- The Warriors defense kept them in the game with two big double plays and three spectacular catches by center fielder
JR McAuley and one in left by Hogan.
- Schrank made his 50th career appearance and tied his career-high in innings and strikeouts.
- Judson went 3-for-4 and stole his sixth base of the year.
- Freshman right fielder
Marshall Nichol had a single to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. He also swiped a base.
- Hogan, Cooper and McAuley came up with a hit each.
Ouachita Baptist Notes- The Tigers pitchers struck out nine batters with Lance Cullum fanning three in the seventh.
- Draijer went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, a run scored and RBI
- White recorded two hits, as did third baseman J.D. Speed.
- Feuerbacher finished with two hits, including the home run and two RBI.
- Jakahari Howell hit a double in his only plate appearance.
Up NextHendrix, who is tied for first in the Southern Athletic Association, will start a conference series with Centre College at home Saturday.
