CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team remained in a tie for first place in the Southern Athletic Association after sweeping Centre College in a double-header Saturday.
The Warriors (17-12, 11-3) took game one from the Colonels (15-16, 4-10) 10-2, then won the nightcap 2-1 in seven innings.
Hendrix scored in the bottom of the first when freshman third baseman
Jorge Leon led off with an infield single and later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from freshman shortstop
Tanner Cooper. Leon led off the third with another base hit and scored from second on a double from Cooper to go up 2-0.
The Warriors took a 6-0 lead in the fifth on five hits a pair of sacrifices and a wild pitch. Freshman right fielder
Marshall Nichol led the frame off with a double then moved to third on a Leon bunt single. Sophomore second baseman
Drew Judson singled down the right field line, scoring Nichol. Hogan followed with a sac bunt and Cooper drove in Leon with a base hit. Sophomore catcher
Justin Robison hit a single to right to plate Judson. Lillard had the final RBI of the inning with a sac fly to center, scoring Cooper.
Centre got on the board in the sixth when shortstop Grant Herald led off by being hit by a pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Wesley Jorette. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Leon singled and scored on a Judson double to make the game 7-1.Â
In the top of the eighth, Jorrette had another sacrifice fly, knocking in third baseman Brahm Whittinghill.
The Warriors scored the final three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Spencer Summers walked, then Nichol singled to start the inning. After two outs, Hogan singled in Summers. Cooper recorded another single to load the bases then Robison reached on an error, allowing Nichol to cross the plate. Hogan was the final run when he scored on a wild pitch.
The Warriors outhit the Colonels 15-5. Senior
Daniel Imbro (5-3) earned the win with eight strikeouts and allowing five hits, two runs and a walk over eight innings. Junior
Baker Helton threw a hitless, scoreless ninth inning. Trevor Brewer (2-4) took the loss by allowing 12 hits, six earned runs, a walk and four strikeouts over seven frames.
Hendrix Game 1 Notes- Leon went 4-for-5 with four runs scored.
- Cooper was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a run scored and a steal.
- Nichol extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a pair of hits, including a double.
- Judson had two hits, including a double, two batted in.
- Hogan also recorded two hits and a sacrifice bunt.
Centre Game 1 Notes- Right fielder Andrew Schacht had two of the Colonels five hits.
- Jorette recorded both RBI.

In game two, Hendrix senior
Will Nichol (4-2) threw a complete seven-inning game and allowed just six hits, one run, four walks and struck out three. Rob Caudill (2-2) gave up six hits, one earned run, two walks and one strikeout.
The Warriors broke open a scoreless game in the fourth when Cooper reached on an error and moved to third  on a Lillard base hit. Robison grounded out to second, but managed to knock in Cooper.
Leon led off the fifth with a base hit and moved to second on a Judson sac bunt. Leon scored on Hogan's hit to right center to give Hendrix a 2-0 lead.
The Colonels managed run in the top of the seventh when first baseman Trevor Brewer led off with a walk and was pinch ran for by Colin Hathorn. Hathorn moved to second on a walk to Forrest Goodwin and to third on Whittinghill bunt single. Schacht grounded out first allowing Hathorn to cross the plate.
Hendrix Game 2 Notes- Nichol earned his 16th career win, moving him into third place on the Warriors' all-time list and two off the school record.
- Leon added two more hits with a run scored
- Judson also came up with a pair of hits and a sacrifice bunt.
Centre Game 2 Notes- Catcher Zach Montgomery recorded two hits.Â
- Second baseman Andrew Olson had two hits and a stolen base.
Up NextHendrix and Centre will wrap up their series at noon on Sunday at Warrior Field.
