CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College field hockey team kicked off the Southern Athletic Association part of their schedule with a 3-2 victory over Transylvania University on Saturday at Warrior Field.
Before the game, the Warriors (2-3, 1-0) honored their four seniors -
Anna King,
Elisabeth Kraaijenbrink,
Raychl Reger and
Gabryele Pochron.
The Pioneers (0-4, 0-1) started the game with a 2-0 lead 27 minutes in. Reger made the game 2-1 on penalty corner assists by junior
Bridget Umble and sophomore
Holly Heeb in the 32nd minute. They tied it up 16 seconds before halftime when freshman
Grace Shapiro scored on a fastbreak assist from Reger.
Hendrix' game-winning goal came 4:45 into the second half. Reger went on another fast break, took a shot, and her rebound was knocked in by freshman forward
Mary Ingabire.
The Warrior defense held on the rest of the way, being outshot on goal 11-3 in the final 30 minutes.
For the game, Transy outshot Hendrix 34-11 overall and 23-9 on goal. The Pioneers also led in penalty corners 16-3.
Hendrix Notes
- Pochron kept Hendrix in the game with 20 saves. She moves into 12th on the NCAA Division III career saves list with 862.
- King earned her first defensive save of the season.
- Reger's goal was her team-leading sixth of the year to go with three assists.
- Shapiro and Ingabire's goals were the second on the year for both players.
- Heeb's assists was her third of the year and sixth of her career.
- Umble recorded the second assist of her career.

- Scout Gibson and Jessica Chandler scored the Pioneers' goals.
- Taylor Insley and Zoe Jessie recorded assists.
- Allyson Benz had six saves.
