SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team won their second consecutive Southern Athletic Association game by defeating Sewanee - The University of the South 67-57 on the road Friday.
The Tigers (9-5, 2-2) jumped out to a 9-1 lead over the first four minutes of the game, but the Warriors (6-8, 2-2) responded with a 17-0 run over the next seven minutes, where they shot 7-of-9 from the field, to go up 18-9. Hendrix led 27-24 at halftime.
Sewanee scored the first four points of the second period to go up by one, but the Orange & Block answered with a 21-3 rally to go up 48-33 with 8:57 left. The Tigers chipped away to cut the deficit to 58-53 with 1:53 remaining, but the Warriors outscored them 9-4 in the final minutes of the contest.
For the game, Hendrix shot 46.8 percent overall (22-of-47), 6-of-16 from three-point range and 17-of-34 at the free throw line. They also had 29 rebounds, eight assists, nine turnovers, five blocks and eight steals. Seanee shot 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the field, 5-of-17 from outside and 8-of-15 at the line with 42 boards, four assists, 18 turnovers, one block and two steals.
