CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team lost a 68-62 decision to Berry College in Southern Athletic Association competition at Grove Gymnasium Friday night.
The Vikings (7-12, 3-5) turned a 18-17 lead with 7:41 left in the first half into a 36-25 advantage at halftime after an 18-8 run. The Warriors (8-10, 4-4) overcame a 14-point deficit from early in the second half to take a 54-53 lead at the 6:40 mark. Hendrix outscored the Berry 27-12 during that stretch.
The visitors from Georgia took the lead back after a lay-up from forward Taylor Spalding 12 seconds later. The held on to the lead the rest of the game, but Hendrix made it 64-62 after a three-pointer from senior
Travis Garrett with 1:49 to play. Viking guard Blake Jones hit a jumper with 56 seconds left and a pair of free throws with 18 seconds remaining to go up six points. The Warriors missed a pair of three-point attempts in the final seconds of the game.
Hendrix shot 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from the field, 4-of-17 from three-point territory and 14-of-24 at the free throw line. They also had 33 rebounds, 14 assists, 16 turnovers, five blocks and four steals. Berry shot 47.5 percent (29-of-61) overall, 5-of-11 from outside and 5-of-9 at the free throw line with 32 boards, 21 assists, 11 turnovers, five blocks and six steals.
