IRVING, Texas - The Hendrix College women's basketball defeated the University of Dallas 77-70 in overtime at the Maher Center Tuesday.
Both teams were tied at 11 after the first quarter, but the Warriors (7-5) outscored the Crusaders (7-4) 18-7 in the second to take a 29-18 lead into the break. Dallas turned the tide by outscoring Hendrix 19-8 in the third quarter, making the game 37-37.
UD led 61-57 with 15 seconds left in regulation. Junior center
Sara Dyslin scored after an offensive rebounds to make the game 61-59 with seven seconds left. Hendrix fouled Celsi Caraway who made the first of her two free throw attempts. Dyslin rebounded the second attempt and assisted freshman
Amber Turner's three-pointer that was banked in at the buzzer, forcing the contest to overtime at 62-62.
Hendrix led the entire extra period, outscoring Dallas 15-8. The Warriors were 4-for-4 from the field, including two three-point attempts, and 5-of-6 at the line in overtime.
For the game, the Warriors shot 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the field, 6-of-13 from outside and 17-of-26 from the line. They also had 46 boards, 15 assists, 13 turnovers, seven blocks and five steals. The Crusaders shot 36.4 percent (28-of-77) overall, 5-of-22 from three-point range, 9-of-12 from the free throw line with 42 rebounds, 14 assists, 10 turnovers, 10 blocks and 11 steals.
