Conway, AR -Â The Hendrix College Men's Soccer team took on the Mississippi University for Women Tuesday afternoon, with both teams looking to grab the victory in this seasons re-match. It was a close game throughout; however, the Owls edged the Warriors with a goal in the 59th minute to grow their lead and seal the 4-3 win.
"As the head coach this loss is on me," said Head Coach
Matt Kern. "We had 75% possession, 23 shots, nine corners, scored three goals, and lost."
"I am disappointed that I have been unable, thus far, to get across to the group some defensive principles in regards to pressure, cover, balance, defensive stance, delaying, and tackling to win the ball," continued Coach Kern. "Additionally, I need to continue with our technical development as it relates to the weight and accuracy of our passing, and our consistency with services from wide positions. Full credit to MUW, they adjusted to the conditions better than us today, and deserved to win the match."
HC was playing strong offensively, as Hendrix had the Owls in total shots by 23-11. Of the 23 shots Hendrix was able to get off, six made it on net, three of which were goals with
Jack Butler scoring two and
Patrick Bell adding the teams third.Â
Freshman
Josh Neuman made four saves in the loss.
The loss drops Hendrix to 3-9 on the season. Hendrix will be back in action on Friday, October 6th when they host the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe at 7:00 pm.
