Sherman, TX - The Hendrix Warriors women's basketball team made the trip to Austin College for a meeting with the Roo's. The match-up saw the Roo's come out on top 81-66.
Hendrix was looking to keep the wins coming after an impressive win in their last game against Ozarks. Their record going into this afternoons match was 1-0.
This match-up got off to a quick start and saw the Roo's pounce on the Warriors by gaining a 7-0 lead just four minutes into the game.Â
Putting the Warriors first points on the board was
Amber Turner with a three pointer. The first quarter ended with the Roo's holding a 23-16 lead.
With a quarter of play under their belt the Warriors regrouped and came out in the second quarter looking to swing the momentum their way.
Hendrix would get within within 13 with 2:01 remaining in the half. The offense came from
Heather Prowse.
With 1:50 left in the quarter the Roo's had an opportunity to respond. The team closed out the quarter strong and took a 47-34 lead into the half.
Hendrix was led by
Madison Martin who tallied 12 points with Prowse and
Leah Smith recording ten and five points respectively.
Facing a 13 point deficit at the start of the third quarter Hendrix had hopes to further cut into the Roo's lead and they did just that.
The Warriors opened the second half in a much different fashion than they began the game. They cut the Roo's lead to three however, when the horn ended the third quarter Hendrix saw themselves trailing 66-53.
Trailing by 13 with just ten minutes to play turned out to be insurmountable, and the Warriors dropped the non-conference match-up 81-66 after being held to just 13 points in the final frame.
"Our effort was there most of the way," said Head Coach
Drew Gaeng. "Mental focus and physical execution was poor and it cost us. We need to have a short memory and try and turn around and compete tomorrow."
The Warriors were led by Smith who recorded 15 points and Prowse with 14. Martin also provided a spark contributing 14 points in the loss.
Hendrix continues the season with a 1-1 overall record.
The Warriors won't have to wait long to get another shot on the hardwood, the team will play Sunday, November 18th against the Ladies of Centenary College. Tip-off is set for 11 am.
