Sherman, TX - The Hendrix College women's basketball team took to the court on Sunday morning as they played the Centenary College Ladies. After dropping their last game to Austin on Saturday, the Warriors looked to get their second win of the season.
The Ladies got off to a hot start, as they tallied the first score of the evening and kept the game close never really letting Hendrix catch their breath. It didn't take the Warriors long to push back, however, they would find themselves down by a score of 18-15 as they prepped for quarter number two.
Centenary's late-quarter momentum swing carried over into the 2nd quarter, as they continued to pour it on after a slow start. The Ladies were able to keep the lead over Hendrix heading to the locker room for halftime 29-27.
The Ladies continued to sustain a sizeable advantage, as they remained persistent and methodical in their attack in the 3rd quarter. Hendrix however would fight hard and would end up going into the 4th quarter with a 43-40 lead, as only ten minutes stood between them and their second victory of '17-18.
Hendrix remained unwavering in the final quarter, playing smart and confident basketball as they wore down the Ladies and continued to tack on to their lead. The Warriors came away with their second victory when all was said and done.Â
"We played really well defensively today and executed on some big offensive possessions down the stretch," said head Coach
Drew Gaeng. "I'm proud of the girls for bouncing back today."
The Warriors were led by a trio of veterans on this victorious Sunday.
Madison Martin was the Warriors' leading point-getter, as her 14 points led the team. She also led the team with 12 rebounds.
Leah Boehl contributed ten points to go along with a rebound, and
Amber Turner added nine points of her own, as well as an assist and two steals.
The win pushes the Warriors to .667 on the young season (2-1, 0-0 SAA). They will be back in action this Tuesday as they host The University of Dallas. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
