Conway, AR -Â The Hendrix College men's basketball team hosted their home opener against the University of Dallas Crusaders. While the Warriors shot well from the floor the Crusaders shot a little bit better, especially from three, as Dallas defeated Hendrix 90-76.
Hendrix struggled out of the gate against Dallas, connecting on just nine of 26 shots from the field in the first half. Three of those nine baskets came from behind the three point line and the Warriors strong suit was at the charity stripe, as Hendrix went six for six in free throws in the opening half.
Dallas went into the half up 44-27. Freshman
Trey Rouse led all Warriors scorers with eight in the first half.
As tough as the first half looked, Hendrix proved in the second half why they can never be counted out of a ball game. The Warriors slowly chipped away at Dallas' lead until a
Sean Criswell lay-up brought Hendrix all the way back to within ten at 78-68.
Marcis Hall was a one-man wrecking crew for the Warriors in the second half. After scoring just four points in the opening 20 minutes, Hall poured in 14 after the break to finish the night with 18. He ended the second half going 4-6 from the floor and 6-8 from the free-throw line in an incredible offensive display.
The rest of Hall's teammates followed suit with their play in the second half, collectively shooting 53.1% from the floor.
However on Tuesday night it was Hendrix's defense that put them in a hole they couldn't climb out of, as made free-throws by Dallas ballooned the lead back up to 14 ending the game.
Hall and Rouse finished the evening with 18 and 14 points respectively, while freshman
Kam Brasfield scored 12 points and added two rebounds and an assist.
Hendrix now sits at 0-4 overall. They will look to rebound on Sunday when they host The Roo's at 12 pm.
