Conway, AR -Â In their second home game of the season, the Hendrix College men's basketball team took on the Roo's of Austin College in a non-conference match-up. In what turned out to be an intense game the Warriors fought the Roo's to the brink, however they would end up falling to Austin 96-84.
The Warriors starters opened the game strong giving Hendrix an early 11-7 lead. The Warriors lead grew to as much as eight with 6:55 remaining in the opening 20 minutes when a
Chandler Notley free-throw put Hendrix up 32-24.
The Roo's slowly chipped away at the Warriors lead though, and with just 4:21 left in the first half a AC three-pointer gave them the 38-36 lead. The two sides continued to battle for the remainder of the half, as Austin took the 50-41 lead into halftime.
Nine different Warriors found their way on the score sheet in the opening half, with seniorÂ
Sean Criswell leading the way with eleven points. Freshman
Marcis Hall had ten points and one steal at the half, while
Trey Rouse chipped in five points of his own.
The tough battle that ended the first half continued on into the second, with neither team able to pull to far away from the other in the early minutes.Â
After grabbing the lead away from Hendrix with just over eleven minutes left, the Roo's began their run. Their one-point lead grew to seven with just 1:24 left in regulation.
HC would not be able to score again as they would ultimately fall 96-84.
"We scored the ball well today but just couldn't string a series of defensive stop together in either half," said Head Coach
Thad McCracken. "We continue to put together nice stretches of basketball but need to find a way to put it together for an entire game."
On his efforts Rouse ended the evening with 22 points on 8-14 shooting all while connecting on a five three-point shots.
Hall chipped in with 20 points, while
Kam Brasfield added 14 points of his own. Hall snagged a team-high seven rebounds as Hendrix fell to 0-5 with the loss.
HC gets back to action on Tuesday, November 28 when they host the Eagles of Ozarks. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
