Conway, AR - The Hendrix College women's basketball team looked to keep their winning streak alive on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Ladies of Centenary College. The Warriors made a comeback against the Ladies after being down in the first half as they jumped out fast in the second half building a strong momentum aiding them to a 77-62 win at home.
After winning their last two games, Hendrix struggled a little in the first quarter with the Ladies controlling much of the pace. Strong defense would catapult Hendrix's fight back ending the first quarter only down a point 17-16.
Both teams battled hard in the second, as the Ladies went into halftime with a 37-34 advantage. The Ladies out-rebounded Hendrix 17-14 but kept the Warriors in the game by committing nine turnovers in the first half.
The turnovers continued for Centenary in the second half as the Ladies simply had no answer for the Warriors strong defense.
The Warriors went 13-27 from the floor in the final 20 minutes, they also connected on 14 of their 16 free throw attempts to put the game away. In total Hendrix went 30-38 from the charity stripe, getting to the line 17 more times than the visiting team.
"We were fortunate to come back from a slow start," said Head Coach
Drew Gaeng. "Second half defense was much better and we got some really good play from our bench to put us in a position to win."
Vinessa Daniel led all Warriors with 17 points and two rebounds.
Leah Boehl and
Madison Martin both had strong games themselves, with Boehl going for 14 and 5, while Walker added 13 and one.
Junior
Maddie Anderson was a breath of fresh air off the bench on Saturday, dropping eight points and grabbing two rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
The win improves Hendrix to 4-1 on the season, as they look forward to hosting the Roo's of Austin College on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm.
