Warriors Edge Roo's in Close Non-Conference Match-Up

Conway, AR - The Hendrix Warriors women's basketball team (4-1) looked to keep their season on the fast track on Sunday afternoon as they hosted the Austin Roo's. After a loss to the Roo's earlier in the season, Hendrix was hoping that a victory would ensue out of this meeting.

In the first quarter, the Warriors jumped out to a seven point advantage at 9-2. Hendrix used a balanced attack to get out in front early, as they would be ahead 19-16 at the end of the first quarter.

Points were piling up in the second quarter, as the teams combined for 35 points in this ten minute stretch. Through halftime, Hendrix still retained a lead by ten, 40-30. Leah Boehl led all Warriors scorers with eight points. Madison Martin chipped in four rebounds in the first half of play.

Austin continued to apply pressure on the Warriors, as Hendrix's ten point lead at half was trimmed to just six (59-53) after three quarters with the Roo's outscoring the Warriors 23-19 in the third.

As the fourth quarter came to a culmination, Hendrix was able to get the last laugh in this intense affair. The momentum would be in favor of the Warriors, as they held the lead in the final two minutes of play and never looked back, winning their fifth game of the season by a final score of 78-70. The victory pushes Hendrix's overall record to (5-1).

"I am super proud of our team from top to bottom today," said Head Coach Drew Gaeng. "We showed a ton of balance on the offensive end and a great level of consistency in each possession. It was a great win for us against a really good Austin team."

Leading the charge for the Warriors was Amber Turner, who recorded 13 points and two rebounds, Vinessa Daniel, who registered 13 points and one assist, Leah Smith, who chipped in 12 points along with three rebounds and one assist, and Martin whose eight rebounds were good for first on the team.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, December 2nd as they will take to the road for a matchup against Agnes Scott.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
