Hendrix Drops Rematch With University of Dallas

Irving, TX - The Hendrix College women's basketball team looked to get the season sweep on the University of Dallas. This was the second meeting of the season and in the first match-up the Warriors took home the victory 76-48.

Hendrix began the day with a record of 7-1 overall and were coming off a road win against Maryville.

The high powered Warriors team came out of the gates firing. After Hendrix got on the board first by Heather Prowse free-throws the Crusaders would turn up their offense and quickly take the lead.

In response, Madison Martin attacked the basket for the Warriors and connected on a layup. 

From there the Crusader offense kicked it back into gear and the rest of the quarter was a back and forth affair.

The first quarter buzzer sounded, and Dallas held onto a two point lead by the score of 14-12.

In a game of runs the Crusaders's turn was up and they accumulated a lead after a jumper put them up 16-15.

After they went down by four Hendrix would bring the deficit to one with a three from Leah Smith.

Dallas took a three point lead into the locker room. 

Hendrix saw contributions up and down their lineup with five players recording at least two points. Leading the way was Smith and Prowse with nine and five points respectively.

The Warriors also got contributions from by Martin with four points, Leah Boehl with three, and Vinessa Daniel with two. 

The third quarter came and the Warriors were able to build their lead back as they outscored the Crusaders by five in the third frame to take a two point lead with ten minutes remaining in the game.

Dallas would then battle to a non-conference victory against the Warriors, the final being 57-53.

"We didnt compete at the necessary level," said Head Coach Drew Gaeng. "We need to learn from both mental and physical mistakes and try and use the loss as a positive moving foward."

A bright spot for the Warriors came by the way of seniors Prowse, Smith, and Martin. Prowse had a great day notching 12 points on 4-6 shooting and going 4-5 from the three-point line. She also added in two assists and one steal. Smith continued her great season with 12 points and four rebounds. Martin was also in double figures with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Daniel would also tally seven points with Boehl and Alexis Baker adding in five and three respectively.

The loss would bring the Warriors to 7-2 overall.

Hendrix will play next against the Bears of Washington on December 29th. The game will have a tip-off scheduled for 4:00pm.
