Conway, AR -Â The Hendrix College men's basketball team hit the hardwood after a nine day break on Friday evening, kicking off the second half of their season against the Patriots of UT Tyler.
Both teams came out ready to compete after their lay-offs. Rust was dusted off quickly in the first half as shown in the team shooting percentages. Hendrix was shooting 44% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, while the Patriots shot just over 71% themselves.
HC hit 15 shots from the field and UT Tyler would hold the edge making 25 shots. The Patriots would also connect on one more three than the Warriors did.
Seven different Warriors made it on the score sheet in the first, with freshman Marcis Hall and
Trey Rouse leading the way with nine points each and junior
Preston Smith was not far behind with seven.
The battle continued into the second half, with both teams trading blows. Within the first four minutes of the final frame HC would cut the UTT lead to 12 when Smith tipped in a lay-up to make the score 63-51.
The Patriots lead however, would grow to as much as 20 with under 10 minutes to go. UTT would hold a 28 point lead with 2:35 to go.
The Warriors tried to chip away at the lead the Patriots had, unfortunately it was too much to overcome as Hendrix fell in a non-conference match-up 110-85.
Hall led the way for the Warriors scoring a team high 19 points and hauling in a team best six rebounds. Freshman
Kam Brasfield had an impressive game as well for the Warriors, scoring 14 points on 2-4 shooting from three.
