GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Hendrix College baseball team lost 13-9 to #21 Texas Lutheran University in a wild game as part of the Rusty Greeer/Jackie Moore Collegiate Classic at AirHogs Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (0-2) scored in the top of the first when sophomore third baseman
Jorge Leon led off with a walk and scored on a base hit to center field from sophomore first baseman
Josh Walker. The Bulldogs (3-2) tied it up in the first after an error.
Hendrix regained a 4-1 advantage in the second when sophomore shortstop
Tanner Cooper hit a lead off single and stole second and junior designated hitter
Jake Wiegand drew a walk. With two outs, Leon singled to center, driving in Cooper and an error allowed Wiegand to move to third. Wiegand and Leon both scored on wild pitches.
TLU scored a run in the second, third and fourth to tie it up at 4-4. Walker led off the top of the fifth with a single up the middle and scored on a double from junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard. The Bulldogs added another run in the bottom of the frame to make it 5-5.
Texas Lutheran took a 12-5 lead with seven runs on four hits and three errors in the bottom of the sixth. Left fielder Matthew Lemon had a two-run single in the inning.
Hendrix cut the deficit to 12-9 with four runs on five hits in the eighth. Sophomore catcher
Justin Robison started things with a single and scored on a Wiegand double. Weigand was thrown out at third on the play and junior center fielder
JR McAuley followed with a base hit. Leon hit a double to right center, putting two runners into scoring position. Junior second baseman
Drew Judson hit a grounder, scoring McAuley then senior left fielder
Wyatt Hogan blasted a two-run homer to left field.
Lemon led the bottom of the eighth off with a single and scored a triple from Tyler Cauley for the final run of the game.
Bulldog reliever Dylan Murrell (1-0) earned the win with a walk, six hits and four runs allowed in 2.2 innings. Dylan Dragac struck out one in a four-inning save. Hendrix junior
Colin Brown struck out three and allowed six hits, two earned runs and four walks in five innings in his debut. Senior
Connor Nelson (0-1) took the loss for the Warriors.
Hendrix Notes
- Hogan's home run was the fifth of his career.
- Leon went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a RBI, a double and a steal.
- Walker went 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored as well.
- Robison finished with a pair of hits, including a double. He also threw out a runner trying to steal.
- Judson extended his hitting streak to 10 games, dating back to last season.
- All nine players in the Warrior starting lineup recorded at least one hit.

- Lemon went 3-for-5 with two runs, three RBI and a triple.
- Center fielder Rayce Gatlin drove in two runs with a triple.
- Catcher Cameron Wilson had two hits, with a double and scored twice.
- Second baseman Ben Marvin had two hits, including a double, and stole two bases.
