CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team defeated Centre College 67-55 at Grove Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors move to 11-12 overall and 7-6 in Southern Athletic Association play and are now tied for third place with one game left. The Colonels, who were tied for first coming into the game, fall to 13-9 overall and 9-4 in the league and drop to second place.
Hendrix jumped out to an 11-2 lead over the first four minutes. Centre cut the deficit to 16-13 with 7:10 left in the first half. The Orange & Black answered with a 17-6 run over the next six minutes and took a 35-24 advantage into the half.
The Warriors went up 48-28 with 16:12 left in the game. The Colonels made the game 58-51 with 3:54 to play, but Hendrix finished the game on 9-4 run. Hendrix maintained the lead the entire game.
The Warriors shot 33.8 percent (22-of-65) from the field, 9-of-26 from three-point range and 14-of-18 at the free throw line. They also recorded 49 rebounds, 18 assists, 14 turnovers, six blocks and seven steals.
The Colonels shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) overall, 3-of-21 from outside and 8-of-14 at the line with 33 boards, 14 assists, 11 turnovers, five blocks and six steals.

Preston Smith led the Warriors with 17 points, hitting four long-range shots.

Aaron Steele scored 15 points with four rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.
