MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College women's tennis team defeated Rhodes College 6-3 in their first Southern Athletic Association match of the season.

The Warriors (6-1, 1-0) won two of three doubles matches from the Lynx (5-2, 0-1) to start. Seniors Julia Lefler and Lauren Mahaney defeated Natalie Arnold and Sara Lynn Abbott 8-3 in the second spot and juniors Sarah Walker and Sarah Nieman defeated Madeleine McDonald and Mary Mullen 8-4 in the third position.

In number two singles, Lefler beat Anna Volkov 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Rebecca Sherman was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Abbott in the fourth spot and Walker beat McDonald 6-3, 6-0 in the fifth flight. Nieman topped Mullen 6-4, 6-3 at number six.

Hendrix will take on Christian Brothers University later on Sunday.
