BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Hendrix College women's basketball defeated Birmingham-Southern College, the first place team in the Southern Athletic Association, 73-63 at Bill Battle Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors improve to 12-10 overall and 6-5 in conference and remain in fourth place with three games to go. The Panthers fall to 13-9 and 8-3, and slip into a tie with Millsaps for first place.
The teams exchanged the lead twice and were tied five times in the first half before BSC took a 24-22 advantage into the break. The third quarter saw three ties and five more lead changes with Hendrix taking a 45-44 lead into the final period.
Tied at 56-56 with 5:48 remaining, the Warriors went on an 8-0 run over the next couple of minutes to go up 64-56 at the 3:30 mark. Hendrix maintained at least a five point lead throughout the rest of the contest.
For the game, Hendrix shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field, 4-of-14 from three-point territory and 23-of-29 at the free throw line. They also had 42 rebounds, eight assists, 10 turnovers, four blocks and five steals. BSC shot 38 percent (19-of-50) overall, 3-of-10 from outside and 22-of-29 at the line with 29 boards, four assists, nine turnovers, 10 blocks and three steals.
Hendrix Notes
- Junior center
Sara Dyslin posted her sixth consecutive double-double and 15th of the season with 29 points and 13 rebounds to go with four blocks. She went 15-of-20 at the free throw line, tied for the second most free throws made and attempts in program history.
- Junior guard
Leah Smith scored 15 points with a pair of assists and two steals.
- Junior center
Madison Martin came off the bench to record her fifth double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Senior guard
Hailey Bode scored six points and grabbed three boards.
- Freshman guard
Amber Turner also netted six points.
- Junior forward
Heather Prowse registered four points, three boards and a pair of assists.
Birmingham-Southern
- Camillia Carter led the Panthers with 19 points.
- Jameice Holmes had 15 points and six rebounds.
- Laura Van Peursem recorded nine points, seven boards and five blocks.
- Emilee Olsen had four blocks.
- Kaitlin Hogan scored nine points off the bench.
