SEARCY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost 11-7 at NCAA Division II foe Harding University Tuesday afternoon.
The Bisons (16-21) scored five runs off of five hits and an error in the top of the first. Center fielder Ben Brauss led the inning off with a solo home run over the right field fence.
The Warriors (14-18) recorded a run in the top of the second when sophomore shortstop
Tanner Cooper singled and was knocked in by junior designated
Colin Brown with a double.
Hendrix tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the third. Sophomore third baseman
Jorge Leon led off with a double then stole third. Junior center
Drew Judson hit an infield single and junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs, senior left fielder
Wyatt Hogan drove in Leon and Judson with a base hit to center and Brown doubled in Lillard. Sophomore second baseman
Dylan Bowers followed with a base hit, plating Hogan to tie the game.
Harding took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fourth and second baseman Brooks Pitaniello hit a two-run double in the fifth to put the hosts up 9-5. Right fielder Chase Taylor hit a two-run homer in the sixth to make the game 11-5.
The Warriors picked up two runs in the ninth on six walks, including bases-loaded passings issued to Hogan and Brown.
Bisons reliever Logan McCall (2-2) earned the win by allowing three hits, a walk and a strikeout in 4.1 innings. Matt Sherry picked up the save by getting the final out in the ninth. Hendrix freshman Hayden Sea (1-2) took the loss.
