CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team split a Southern Athletic Association double-header with Rhodes College Warrior Field on Friday. The Warriors (15-19, 9-8) took the first game 6-3, while the Lynx (18-16, 10-7) won the nightcap 4-3 in seven innings.
Hendrix started game one with four runs in the bottom of the first. Sophomore third baseman
Jorge Leon led off with a walk, followed by singles from junior
Drew Judson and sophomore
Josh Walker to load up the bases. Junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard singled to right, scoring Leon. Sophomore shortstop
Tanner Cooper hit a sac fly, allowing Judson to score. Senior left fielder
Wyatt Hogan then blasted a two-run triple.
The Warriors went up 5-0 in the fifth when Lillard walked and scored on a Hogan double. In the sixth, senior catcher
James Martin led off with a base hit and scored on a double by Leon.
Rhodes scored in the top of the seventh and two more runs in the eighth for the 6-3 score.
Sophomore starter
Taylor Barker (3-3) earned the win, throwing seven-plus innings and giving up 10 hits, three runs, a walk and two strikeouts. Senior
Harley Faye picked up the save, with a strikeout and a hit allowed in 1.2 innings. Blake Glauben (2-4) took the loss, giving up nine hits, six runs, four walks and four strikeouts.
Hendrix Game 1 Notes
- Leon extended his hitting streak to 16 games with two hits, including a double, and had a run and a RBI. He also walked three times.
- Hogan went 3-for-3 with a double and triple and three RBI.
- Martin recorded a career-high three hits and scored a run.
Rhodes Game 1 Notes
- Bennett Notestine, Bill Munson and Jon Michael Lauck each recorded two hits.
- Right fielder Ryan Olive as 2-for-4 with a RBI.

In game two, Rhodes reliever Nick Fernigan (2-2) struck out 10 and allowed a hit in five innings of relief to earn the win. Junior
Colin Brown (5-4) struck out nine and gave up five hits, four runs and three walks in the complete game loss.
Hendrix scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second. Junior
Jake Wiegand singled, followed by a Martin base hit and Leon was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Judson followed with a two-run single then Walker singled to right center, plating Leon to go up 3-0.
The Lynx tied the game in the top of the third on two hits, a walk, a sac fly and a passed ball. Rhodes won the game in the fifth when center fielder Paul Giacomazzi singled and later scored on a wild pitch.
Hendrix Game 2 Notes
- Judson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases.
- Wiegand and Martin each singled and scored.
- Walker had a RBI single.
- Leon's hit streak ended at 16 games.
Rhodes Game 2 Notes
- Gaacomazzi was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
- Notestine was also 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Hendrix and Rhodes will wrap up the series at 12 p.m. Saturday. The Warriors will honor their nine seniors before the game.
