ATLANTA - The Hendrix College baseball team opened their three-game Southern Athletic Association series by taking both double-header contests at Oglethorpe University Saturday. The Warriors (19-20, 11-9) run-ruled the Stormy Petrels (18-20, 7-13) 14-3 in seven innings, then came from behind to win 10-8 in eight.
With the wins, Hendrix secured third place in the SAA standings with one game to go. They will begin next weekend's SAA Tournament in Memphis, Tenn. at second place Rhodes.
In game one, Hendrix scored a pair of runs after an error int he first. OU answered with three runs in the second. The Warriors regained the lead with a two-run home run by sophomore first baseman
Josh Walker in the fourth.
They extended their lead to 6-3 in the fifth and went up by fiveon RBI-singles from sophomore third baseman
Jorge Leon and junior center fielder
Drew Judson in the sixth. Senior catcher
James Martin recorded a two-run base hit as part of a six-run seventh inning, which enabled the run rule.
Sophomore
Taylor Barker (5-3) took the win for the Warriors by allowing 10 hits, three runs and two strikeouts over seven frames. Matt Davis (5-4) allowed nine hits, five earned runs, three walks struck out three in five innings for the loss.
Hendrix Game 1 Notes
- Sophomore shortstop
Tanner Cooper went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
- Judson went 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, a double and a triple.
- Leon finished 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and two walks.
- Junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard also had three hits with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.
- Walker drove in two on his home run and scored twice.
- Martin went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.
Oglethorpe Game 1 Notes
- Third baseman Austin Ferlita was 3-for-3 with a RBI.
- Left fielder Britton Araujo recorded a double and a single, scored and drove in a run.
- Center fielder Jarvis Miller had a RBI-triple.

In game two, Hendrix started with a 5-0 lead in the first. Ferlita hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second to anchor a six-run frame to give Petrels a one-run lead.
The Warriors tied it in the fifth on Lillard solo shot. First baseman Andrew Mink hit a solo home run int he fifth to give OU a 7-6 advantage. They went up 8-6 with a Ferlita RBI-single in the sixth.
Hendrix tied it up in the seventh on RBI-singles from Martin and freshman second baseman
Sean Dehne. Cooper had the game-running hit with a two-run single in the top of the eighth.
Senior reliever
Connor Nelson (1-2) picked up the win by giving up three hits, a walk and a strikeout in a scoreless seventh. Senior
Harley Faye earned his second save of the year with a strike out in a perfect eighth. Austin Manuel (2-2) took the loss for the Petrels.

- Junior starter
Colin Brown struck out six in six innings in the no decision.
- Lillard went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and his seventh home run of the year.
- Cooper was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
- Martin knocked in two more runs on a base hit.
- Judson singled and scored twice with two walks.
Oglethorpe Game 2 Notes
- Ferlita was 3-for-5 with five RBI.
- Mink went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
- Shortstop Sam Held singled three times with two runs scored and a stolen base.
