MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost their Southern Athletic Association Tournament winner's bracket game at Rhodes College 5-3 Saturday.
The loss forces the third-seeded Warriors (20-21) into an elimination game Saturday night at 7 p.m. at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. They will face the winner between Millsaps and Oglethorpe.
Hendrix took a 1-0 lead in the first when junior center fielder
Drew Judson singled and was knocked in by a double from senior left fielder
Wyatt Hogan. The Warriors would hang to that lead until the bottom of the sixth when the second-seeded Lynx (23-18) scored three times on three hits, an error and a sacrifice fly.
Rhodes went up 5-1 in the seventh on a RBI-single from shortstop Bill Munson. Judson led off the eighth with a solo home run to left center. In the top of the ninth, sophomore third baseman
Jorge Leon and Judson each singled. With two outs, junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard singled, scoring Leon to make the game 5-3. The Lynx induced a strikeout to end the game and move on to the tournament semifinals on Sunday.
Nick Ferngren (4-2) earned the win for Rhodes, giving up four hits, one run, two walks and a strikeout over 6.1 innings. Jake Medich struck out three over two innings to pick up his second save. Junior starter
Colin Brown (5-5) struck out eight but took the loss, allowing two hits, three runs and three walks in 5.1 innings.
