Hendrix Takes Two from Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Hendrix College baseball team won both games of a Southern Athletic Association double-header against Centre College Saturday afternoon. The Warriors (13-17, 7-7) took game one 7-6, then defeated the Colonels (14-14, 5-9) 4-1 in seven innings in the nightcap.

Centre took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first of the opener. Hendrix junior right fielder Matthew Lillard hit a solo home run over the right field fence to start the second.

Hendrix tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fifth when freshman center fielder led off with a bunt single and later scored on a base hit by sophomore first baseman Josh Walker. Centre regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth when first baseman Greyson Evans led off with a single and later scored on an error.

The Warriors took the lead for good on senior left fielder Wyatt Hogan's two-run homer to left center in the sixth. Hogan drove in another run in the seventh and senior catcher James Martin hit a two-run single to give the Orange & Black a 7-3 advantage.

The Colonels scored three runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the seventh to make the game 7-6.

Sophomore Taylor Barker (2-3) gave up seven hits, two earned runs, four walks and fanned one over five innings to earn the win. Senior Connor Nelson allowed two walks and struck out two in two scoreless frames for his second save. Reliever Aaron Scilley (4-1) allowed four hits, three runs, a walk and struck out one in an inning, taking the loss.

Hendrix Notes
- Hogan hit his team-leading sixth home run and recorded three RBI.
- Lillard went 2-for-5 with the home run, two runs scored and a RBI.
- Martin connected on a pair of hits and drove in two.
- Walker was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI.
- Sophomore third baseman Jorge Leon also had two hits.

Centre Notes
- Evans went 2-for-5 with two runs, a RBI and a double.
- Catcher Cameron Duggins was 2-for-4 with a sac bunt and a run scored.
- Mason Falbo registered a double and a RBI.
- Left fielder Will Kirk stole two bases with a RBI and a hit.

In game two, Warrior junior starter Colin Brown (5-3) threw a complete game with five strike outs while allowing nine hits, three runs and a walk. Centre's Drew Schacht (2-5) started and gave up seven hits, six runs, two walks and struck out three over 4.1 innings.

Hendrix scored two in the top of the first when Leon led off with a triple and scored on a grounder by junior second baseman Drew Judson. Walker drew a walk and later scored on a sac fly from sophomore shortstop Tanner Cooper.

They went up 4-0 in the third when Walker led off with a bases on balls and Lillard blasted his second home run of the day over the right field fence.

In the fifth, Judson hit a lead off double and Walker singled him in. Walker then stole second and scored on a Cooper double to go up 6-0.

Centre picked up a pair of runs on three hits in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

- Lillard hit his fifth home run of the year while going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
