CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's tennis team lost to Oglethorpe University 6-2 at home in Southern Athletic Association action on Sunday.
The host Warriors (9-6, 1-4) picked up a win in doubles and the Stormy Petrels (10-5, 3-2) won four singles contests.
All three of the doubles matches were close. Hendrix' number two duo of seniors
Julia Lefler and
Lauren Mahaney defeated Shannon Cruz and Taylor Cranford 9-7. OU's Caroline Johnson and Hannah Dattilo topped senior
Pratheepa Ravikumar and freshman
Rebecca Sherman 8-5 at number one and Ingrid Wilcox and Halley Sickling won over juniors
Sarah Walker and
Sarah Nieman 8-5 at number three.
Lefler earned a number two singles victory over Dattilo 6-0, 6-3 for the Warriors. Two matches went to third-set tiebreakers. Johnson won over Ravikumar 7-5, 6-7 (7-10), 6-3 in the top flight. At number five, Wilcox defeated Walker 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Hendrix will travel to Sewanee - The University of the South in conference play Friday morning.
