Conway, AR - The Hendrix men's soccer team faced off this afternoon for their first game in the 2017 Hendrix Invitational that they are hosting. The faced McMurry University. 

McMurry won by a score of 5-0.

In a game that was much closer than the score would indicate, McMurry made the most of their scoring opportunities and despite attempts to control the ball, Hendrix never found the back of the net.

Hendrix had the first real scoring opportunity in the opening minutes, but a save in the McMurry box ended the first half hopes for the Warriors.

The War Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 69'. Jesus Sanchez chipped a ball past Hendrix freshman GK Josh Newman.

In the 75' another potential goal was saved by MU as the Hendrix bench erupted in disappointment.

Jordan Sczech struck for the War Hawks in the 82'. He was able to dribble through several Hendrix defenders and chipped one over Newman for the second goal of the game to make it 2-0.

Hendrix would not have another opportunity to score as MU would add on three more goals and take the 5-0 win. 

"We are very disappointed with our performance and result tonight," said Head Coach Matt Kern. " Much of the credit goes to McMurry who I thought defended very well, and dealt with the speed of the game much better than us."

"Our competitive maturity will improve, and we will learn from this experience.," ended Coach Kern.

With the win McMurry goes to 1-0, while Hendrix falls to 0-1. 

McMurry outshot Hendrix 21-5 in the loss.

HC will next take on Southwestern University on Sunday in day two of the 2017 Hendrix Invitational. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
