Football Ends Win Streak with SAA Loss at Centre 52-42

Danville, KY - The Colonels of Centre will leave today with the win, as Hendrix dropped a win streak-ending 52-42 decision to the host Colonels today in an SAA contest.

Miles Thompson was 21-37 for 311 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.

Nate Hodapp had nine catches for 126 yards and a touchdown.

Michael Kramer was the Warriors leading tackler with 12 stops.

Things did not start well for the Warriors, as CC's Cody Estep returned the opening kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown in the first play of the game.

Centre would answer again, finding the end zone on its next two possessions on a touchdown pass by Devin Hayes, and a 79 yard rush, taking a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Hendrix stopped the bleeding with a Kody Smith one-yard rush early in the second quarter, but the Colonels responded with a seven-play, 48-yard drive that ended with another Hayes touchdown pass to Estep from 17 yards.

The Warrior cut the deficit to 32-13 before the half, as Thompson hit Blake Hinton with a 28-yard scoring strike with just seven minutes left before the break.

Thompson was picked off in the fourth quarter, and this led to another Centre touchdown on a 15-yard run by Tommy Kaczocha that put CC up 52-36.

Thompson threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Hinton adding one more touchdown to the board before ultimately falling 52-42.

"I didn't have us ready to play the game, and we combined that with poor execution in all three phases in the first half and got down by three scores," said Head Coach Buck Buchanan. "Centre deserves a lot of that credit as they were well prepared and came out swinging as they outplayed us in the first half. I was very proud of our effort and how we clawed our way back in within six points as we made some critical stops and put the ball in the end zone. Even though I am very disappointed in the loss, I am not disappointed in our players because we still made progress as a program today. We played a very good Centre team on the road and could have easily rolled over after our terrible start, but it is a good lesson that there is no re-set button in life and that we have no choice but to keep playing. We did that today and put ourselves with a chance to win and if we can all go through life that way we will be just fine. We will get better from this as our failure will not be final and we will be ready to celebrate alumni weekend by getting back to our field next Saturday."

Centre piled up 515 yards of total offense with 238 through the air, and 277 on the ground. Hendrix finished with 311 passing yards, but had just 139 rushing.

HC will next host Austin College on Saturday at 1pm.
