Conway, AR - The Hendrix College Women's Volleyball team was back in action Saturday, hosting a triangle and taking on the Colonels of Centre College and the Roo's of Austin College. After taking the sweep Wednesday night against Rhodes, Hendrix came out swinging with two 3-2 wins (G1; 16-25, 25,20, 20-25, 25-13,17-15) (G2; 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 17-15).
The Warriors had a great offensive performance in game one, finishing the match with a .110 team hitting percentage in the five game match.Â
As well as Hendrix played on offense, they played just as well on defense. Hendrix held the Colonels to .067 hitting overall.
Sophomore
Lauren Dwyer led the team with 16 kills and senior
Bradi Ryan wasn't far behind with ten of her own. Sophomore
Sesalie Satterwhite dished out 29 assists as Hendrix's offense was clicking on all cylinders.
Defensively freshman
Jeanette McGrath had a team high 15 digs and Satterwhite followed suit with 13 of her own. The win improves Hendrix to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in SAA play as they got ready for the Roo's of Austin College in just three hours.
Match number two of the day saw the Warriors face off against the Roo's of Austin College. The defensive effort for Hendrix was phenomenal in the second match of the day. The team combined for 14 blocks, and didn't allow the Roo's to hit over .160.
The Warriors started off with a 21-25 game one loss to start the game down 1-0. After a 25-23 win in game number two, Hendrix would fall again in game number three with a 19-25 loss. Hendrix would end up forcing a decisive game five with a hard fought 25-22 game four victory.
Game five was a battle of wills. The largest lead by either side in the final game was five, which is a lead that the Warriors enjoyed. This came when
Hannah Moore thundered home a service ace to make it 6-1. The game hit its match-point when
Amber Melcher had a service ace to give Hendrix the 17-15 win.
Dwyer (24), and
Maddie Tovar (12) each finished with double-digit kills while Satterwhite had a 22 assists. Defensively the Warriors put up huge numbers with McGrath leading the way with 35 digs. Dwyer (18), and Satterwhite (15) combined their offensive numbers with just as large defensive dig numbers.
The Warriors are now 5-6 on the season with the two wins they picked up this afternoon. Hendrix will be back in action tomorrow when they continue SAA play hosting the Tigers of Sewanee.Â
