St. Louis, MO - The Hendrix College Women's Volleyball team wrapped up their opening weekend at the 2017 Bear Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches against Hope College and Cornell College. The Warriors fought all morning and early afternoon pulling out a victory to the Flying Dutch but ultimately falling to the Rams.
Match number one was a close contest throughout that could have went either way with the bounce of a ball. The Warriors took the first match of the day in five sets (25-20, 21-25, 12-25, 25-22, 17-15). Â The Warriors had their best offensive match of the young season.
Six different Warriors ended with at least one kill with sophomore
Lauren Dwyer leading the way with 12. Junior
Amber Melcher dished out 20Â assists and fellow junior
Hannah Moore led the team with 19 digs.
Without much time to rest Hendrix was back at it for their fourth and final match of the weekend against Cornell. In what proved to be a tough challenge for the Warriors the Rams took the match in straight sets 3-0, (12-25, 20-25, 22-25).
Senior
Lauren Petrisin led the Warriors with eleven kills while Dwyer notched eight digs in the match.
Hendrix will go to 1-3Â on the young season as they now look forward to the UT Tyler Tournament on Friday. The first match is against Mary Harden-Baylor at 3 p.m.
