Offense Stalls as Hendrix Falls to LSU Shreveport

Conway, AR - The Hendrix College Men's Soccer Team found themselves hosting a non-conference match-up Wednesday afternoon, taking on LSU Shreveport. The Warriors were coming off a loss on Sunday, falling to Webster College in a wild affair on the road. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they dropped their second game in a row to a non-conference foe, falling to the Pilots 4-0.

For the second straight contest Hendrix got off to a sluggish start, allowing LSU Shreveport to take a 1-0 lead just a minute into the game when Murray Cockburn scored. The goal didn't seemed to wake up the Warriors, as LSUS would add two more first half goals to go into halftime up 3-0.

The Warriors and Pilots were tied up corner kicks in the first half at two each.

The second half was much of the same story as LSU Shreveport continued to wear down the Warrior defenses. The Pilots peppered the Warriors with 12 shots in the second half, something that Hendrix struggled with only taking two shots themselves in the second half.

Senior Nate Myers rose to the occasion, providing a strong last line of defense and trying to keep the Warriors in the game. Myers made some big stops in the final frame, but with just over 20' left let a David Martinez shot was just out of reach as the goal put the Pilots up 4-0 and sealed the shutout victory for them.

"We are disappointed in the result, but full credit to LSU Shreveport as I was very impressed with them," said Head Coach Matt Kern. "Our guys played hard for 90 minutes against a top 20 NAIA program that circulates the ball very well, and has extremely dynamic movement of the ball."

"We will learn from this match and move on," ended Coach Kern.

Myers finished the game with three saves on the afternoon, while juniors Faraz Arif, Evan Munro, and Ethan Brass had the one shot each on offense for the Warriors.

Hendrix will look to avenge this loss this Saturday, when they host the Panthers of Birmingham Southern at Warrior Field on September 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
