Conway, AR - The Hendrix Men's Soccer team kicked off SAA play on Saturday afternoon with a tilt against the Panthers of Birmingham Southern. The Warriors opened the game with a goal to tie 1-1 but the Panthers answered with a second goal in the second half to hand Hendrix a 2-1 loss.
The Warriors started off hot when
Patrick Bell scored a goal off a feed from
Dalton Clement in the 14' to knot the Panthers up 1-1. This came just eleven minutes after Birmingham Southern scored the first goal of the game in the third minute.
Momentum started to shift in the start of the second half when the Warriors gave Birmingham Southern life as they scored another goal to make it a 2-1 score and ultimately the 2-1 victory.
"I am really proud of the guys in that we competed for 90 minutes today," said Head Coach
Matt Kern. "We scored a great equalizing goal and had another great opportunity midway through the second half. I thought Birmingham Southern was really well organized, and they made the game very difficult for us."
Freshman keeper
Josh Neuman made seven saves in the effort as Hendrix falls to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in SAA play. Hendrix is back in action on Friday afternoon when they host Millsaps at Warrior Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
