Conway, AR -
Nadine Matena scored the only goal of the game as the Hendrix defense held Concordia University Wisconsin without a goal on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Falcons 1-0. As temperatures hovered above 90 degrees on an uncharacteristically warm late September day, the Warriors could not be cooled on the field as they took home the win.
Hendrix kept possession on Concordia Wisconsin defensive end for most of the game, and it started early as the Warriors rattled off six shots in the first half. It was not until the third attempt, though, that Matena was able to split the defense and get to the top of the circle for a shot that found its way past the Concordia Wisconsin goalie for the game's opening and closing goal.
"Hendrix continued its streak to six on scoring first in each match this season," said Head Coach
Rebecca Begley. "Today was a huge match not only improving to 3-3 but more importantly 1-0 in conference."
"The Warriors showed their grit today and fought hard to keep an early lead," continued Coach Begley. "An impressive feat considering they went into double overtime less than 24 hours ago. The Warriors will have a well deserved bye weekend and get back to action on Oct. 7th."
Hendrix will enjoy another away game Saturday, Oct. 7th as they take on Transylvania at 11 am EST.
